4 Mistakes that are ageing your eyes quickly
When I posted my little ‘Don’t forget to top-up your SPF’ reminder on Instagram last Friday, I was SO proud of the number of you who messaged to say you’d taken your BASE Protection out for the day with you…You’re all straight A skincare students 🥰
With that being said, today we’re actually talking about skincare mistakes.
The little things we’re all guilty of slipping up on now and again, particularly when it comes to our eyes. As this area is home to the thinnest skin on the body, these slipups can cause the skin to age at an accelerated rate in comparison to the rest of our face.
So, this evening I’m highlighting the common errors I see time and time again in clinic and sharing how to rectify them ASAP...
Mistake #1. Aggressively removing eye makeup
Sometimes, I actually wince watching people cleanse their eyes online as they scrub at the delicate skin with window wiper motions. Although it’s super important to make sure the area is properly clean, it’s just as important to work gently so you don’t pull and stretch the skin and cause deep set wrinkles over time.
My top tip for this is before you cleanse your skin, simply take some warm water on your fingertips and gently massage your lashes to soften the mascara. You shouldn’t be moving the skin at all, just simply wiggling the hairs.
Once you’ve done this for 30 seconds or so, you’ll be left with the best panda eyes of your life! Now take the Hot Cloth Cleanser, work it into your skin and when you remove it with the Ultra-Soft Face Cloth, it will erase every trace with absolute ease. Work from the outer to the inner corners of your lids and they’ll be no pulling, stretching or aggravating in sight.
Mistake #2. Not wearing your sunnies
When our eyes are dazzled by the sun, we often pull repetitive facial expressions such as squinting and frowning to help clear our vision. But overtime these exaggerated movements lead to the formation of deep-set lines.
This is why your sunglasses aren’t just a fabulous fashion statement but are eye-savers too! By instantly reducing the glare, your shades stop this issue in its tracks and many of them now shield against UVA and UVB rays too, adding an extra layer of protection.
The trick is to keep a pair of sunglasses in your car or handbag at all times and wear them as often as possible to maximise the results. And contrary to popular belief, they don’t have to be designer to work!
Mistake #3. Skipping actual eye products
There are many myths that fly around the internet about skincare and not wearing eye products seems to have done the rounds recently. Some people feel it’s an unnecessary ‘extra’, however, this couldn’t be further from the truth.
As we’ve already established, the skin around our eyes is unlike anywhere else on the body. It’s super fragile and delicate which is why it specifically needs its own dedicated product to strengthen and protect the area.
To lift, tone and firm our eyes, the Proactive Age Eye Complex is made using multiple peptides and skin tightening ingredients. All you need is one drop each morning and evening and you’ll notice the difference immediately, and the results continue to get better and better with time.
Mistake #4. Sleeping on your front
Now, although I’m the author of these blogs, it certainly does not mean I’m perfect and this point in particular is something I’m working on myself!
Sleeping on our fronts, or even our sides for that matter, causes all kinds of eye creases during the night that can lead to defined eye wrinkles.
Obviously, the simple solution to this is sleeping on your back, but if you’ve ever tried it, you’ll know it’s not as easy as you may think. Although I’m continuing to train myself in this seemingly impossible skill, I do have a backup plan...Silk eye masks!
The silk stops your skin wrinkling up as it usually would when your face gets squashed into the pillow and ensures you wake up to smooth, crinkle-free skin every single morning…An effortless addition to my routine that I’m totally obsessed with!
And that is the most common eye mistakes rectified! Here’s to keeping our lids lifted, youthful and toned in a few simple steps.
