A Skin experts skincare secrets that shes never shared before

My skin secrets I've never shared before...

BASE SKNCARE

Today I’m divulging some of my best skin secrets, that I’ve not shared before. They’re little things I do every day alongside my Proactive Age Kit to boost the results even further. Some are easier to incorporate than others, but they all pack a punch...

#No.1... I hang my head upside down for 2 minutes a day

I promise I’m not as crazy as this makes me sound. There is method to my madness...! Healthy skin needs good blood flow, as blood carries all the oxygen and nutrients to the area giving your skin a beautiful, radiant glow.

I get my head below my heart either whilst I’m drying my hair (2 birds, 1 stone), or during yoga practice. Even just a quick downward dog makes such a difference and will give you a great energy boost too.

Give it a try when you get a second and you’ll notice the ‘lit from within’ glow instantly written all over your face.

#No.2... I Micro Needle my skin twice a week

I’ve been doing this since my early 20s and swear it’s made such a difference to the quality of my skin. Micro Needling involves the use of a small roller, covered in hundreds of tiny needles.

These needles create micro channels into your skin that allow your skincare products to absorb much deeper. One study showed that it increased product penetration from 4% to a whopping 70%!

It also works to naturally stimulate your collagen and elastin production, which causes your skin to become firmer, plumped and lifted.

I personally use a 0.25mm roller twice a week and just incorporate it into my Proactive Age Kit evening routine. It’s the ‘at-home’ version of my most popular treatment in clinic and takes your skincare routine to a whole new level!

If you’ve been wondering about it for a while, make sure you keep your eyes peeled over the next couple of weeks as I have a very exciting update coming your way...

#No.3... I don’t eat dairy and gluten

Now this one was actually forced upon me. It wasn’t an easy transition, but it made one heck of a difference to my complexion.

Back in 2017 I developed psoriasis almost overnight. I had this one red, itchy patch right on the back of my neck which meant I couldn’t see it properly to analyse. I popped to the doctors and they quickly diagnosed it as psoriasis. Almost as soon as they said it, it started spreading like wildfire across my entire body and no cream, steroid or otherwise, would touch it.

Although it was itchy and uncomfortable, I didn’t mind it too much on my torso or limbs as I could cover it, but when it crept up onto my face, I started to feel more self-conscious. As little is known about what causes psoriasis, other than it’s a suspected issue with the immune system, the treatments are limited.

On reflection I think mine was probably triggered by a period of stress in my life. My Gran who I completely adored and spoke to daily, quite suddenly passed away. Rather than give myself a chance to come to terms with it, we got back from the hospital and the following day I started my brand-new job as planned, running a busy skin clinic…Eventually these things catch up with you.

After hours of research, it became apparent that many people controlled their psoriasis symptoms through diet. And although there is a lack of scientific proof that it works, I was willing to give it a go!

I removed dairy and gluten as suggested and within 6 weeks it had TOTALLY cleared! I have since had my allergies tested and I’m intolerant to both which obviously, completely makes sense.

I make sure to share this story with others in clinic who struggle with it though, and they too have seen a dramatic improvement. It was a huge lifestyle change but a decision I’d 100% make again as it worked wonders for me.

If you’ve got any insider tips of your own, please do send them my way! I’d love to come back to this post one day but instead, share all your skincare secrets so we can add them to our repertoires. It's amazing how all these little things, make such a big difference.
