What is Hyaluronic Acid and why does your skin need it?
This week we are talking about an essential skin ageing ingredient and one of my favourites, Hyaluronic Acid.
Now the word 'Acid' may sound like something you don’t want to put anywhere near your face, but what if I told you it softens lines and wrinkles and is actually the secret to hydrated, glowing skin?
So, what is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring molecule found within our skin cells. It acts as a magnet for moisture, helping to keep our skin youthful and hydrated. However, due to the ageing process and external environmental factors such as pollution and sun damage, our Hyaluronic Acid levels significantly decrease over time.
This results in dehydration, dullness, lines and wrinkles. The good news is, Hyaluronic Acid can be applied topically in the form of skincare products to reverse all of these concerns.
How does Hyaluronic Acid work?
Before applying Hyaluronic Acid, our skin cells look like raisins due to the lack of moisture. They’re dry, shrivelled and small. Once you apply Hyaluronic Acid, they instantly become plump and smooth like juicy grapes. As a result, lines and wrinkles reduce and your youthful radiance will be restored.
New research also shows that Hyaluronic Acid has antioxidant properties too. It acts as a shield to protect our skin from environmental damage and as a result, brightens our skin and slows the ageing process.
How do I use Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic Acid is suitable for ALL skin types and for best results, should be applied daily in the form of serums. This allows it to reach the dermis (middle layer of your skin) where it has the most impact.
Just one gram is capable of holding up to six litres of water and for that reason, it is used prevalently throughout the Proactive Age Kit. I did say that it's one of my favourite ingredients!
Applied in both your 5 minute morning and evening routines, the Proactive Age Super Serum and Eye Complex deliver a much needed hydration boost to your skin.
