Everything You Need to Know About Profhilo
This week, we're diving into one of the most talked-about topics in the skincare world—injectables! But we’re not exploring Botox or filler today. Instead, we’re focusing on a treatment that's been getting a lot of attention lately: Profhilo.
Recently, I’ve had a flood of questions about this treatment. Whether it was sparked by a celebrity mention or an article making the rounds, many of you asked what Profhilo is, how it works, and whether I’d recommend it. So, let’s break it down!
What Exactly Is Profhilo?
Profhilo is a type of skin booster. Unlike Botox, which relaxes muscles, or fillers, which add volume, Profhilo is designed to improve the texture and quality of your skin. Think of it as injecting a hydrating serum directly beneath the surface to nourish and plump the skin.
The formula contains hyaluronic acid and glycerol, two naturally occurring substances that deeply hydrate the skin and can stimulate collagen production over time, leading to firmer, more elastic skin. Essentially, it's like an internal moisturiser!
How Does Profhilo Work?
The treatment typically involves two sessions, spaced about four weeks apart, and costs between £600-£750. During each session, tiny injections are made across the face with a very fine needle. While some patients experience minor redness, swelling, or bruising, these side effects usually subside within a couple of days. Most people repeat the treatment every six months to maintain results.
Why Choose Profhilo?
From a professional standpoint, Profhilo is considered an "entry-level" injectable treatment. The results are subtle and natural-looking, leaving you with a fresh, lit-from-within glow. No one would necessarily know you've had it done; they'd just notice how radiant your skin looks.
It’s an excellent option if you want some natural plumping before a special occasion or if you’re concerned about crepey skin, especially around the neck. Since it’s one of the more natural injectables, it’s a great alternative for those worried about the more dramatic effects of other treatments.
Things to Keep in Mind
While Profhilo can be a fantastic option for added hydration, it’s important to remember that it is still a cosmetic procedure. Injecting any substance into your skin comes with risks, so always do your research and ensure you visit a qualified medical professional.
Also, Profhilo is very much a "nice to have" rather than a "need to have." Since most skin damage and ageing are caused by external factors like sun exposure and pollution, your skincare routine should always come first. Profhilo can enhance hydration, but it won’t correct or prevent damage the way a good skincare routine can.
My Personal Take on Profhilo
Personally, I haven’t had Profhilo done. Everything my skin needs is in The 5 Minute Kit, and I supercharge the results twice a week using my TLC Roller. My skin has honestly never looked better!
That being said, as an Aesthetician, I love discussing these treatments. There’s no right or wrong - it all comes down to personal preference. If you’re in safe hands and are curious to try Profhilo, it could be a beautiful addition to your self-care ritual.
