The best and worst products to invest in
Since the season of trick-or-treating is officially upon us, tonight I’m demystifying the world of beauty as I guide you through the best and worst products to invest in.
So snuggle up with a warm mug of witches' brew and I’ll take you on a spooktacular guided tour of the top beauty tricks and treats you need to know about 🧙🏼♀️
👻 Trick: Dermaplaning
Now, this one may come as a shock to many of you as it’s the most asked about treatment in my inbox…But if I were you, I’d avoid it like the plague.
Although dermaplaning is super effective for removing peach fuzz (that fine, wispy hair many of us get on our face), it’s shocking for your skin.
The sharp blade also removes too many healthy skin cells which damages your skin barrier. This leads to sensitivity, bad breakouts and generally unbalanced skin. So instead I’d recommend you stick to threading or at-home facial hair trimmers, to keep the fuzz tamed and your complexion glowing.
🍬 Treat: Eyelash Curlers
I think an eyelash curler is perhaps the most underrated beauty gadget of all time. I watched my Mum use one every day growing up, so it was no surprise when it was the first item in my teenage makeup bag…And I’ve used one ever since!
If like me, your lashes grow disastrously downwards, giving them a quick curl instantly opens your eyes making them appear wide awake and youthful. It preps them beautifully for mascara too, so one quick coat takes them to stratospheric lengths.
They also work wonders on the days you choose to go makeup free and provide that perfectly polished look, without any product at all.
👻 Trick: Day & Night Creams
Day and night creams are on the naughty list for a couple of reasons…
Firstly, in most instances, it’s just a marketing ploy to make you buy more product. There’s no meaningful difference between the two and it just overcomplicates a skincare routine.
Secondly, some companies will add SPF to the day cream in an attempt to tailor it specifically for morning use. However, those of you who have been reading the blog for a long time, will know that it’s a skincare sin to mix sunscreen into other products.
It will never provide adequate protection and that’s why I always recommend applying Sunbeam Cream over One Cream Wonder, to keep your skin endlessly youthful.
🍬 Treat: Gradual Tanning Lotion
I don’t know about you, but I’ve had more than my fair share of fake tan disasters over the years, that have left me looking a little pumpkin-esque 🙈🎃
I’ve tried mousses, sprays and even wipes and can categorically say that a gradual tanning lotion is the best, fool-proof method for bronzed goddess skin.
You simply apply it like a regular body lotion, chuck your clothes on top and let it develop steadily throughout the day without any horrendous hassle. Perfect for giving any pale pins a glow as we enter the party season.
And that’s a wrap on the highs and horrors of the beauty world. Although it can feel like a minefield to navigate, please know I’m always on hand as your professional myth-buster 🥰
