Why Hugh Grant is in desperate need of a moisturiser!
This past Monday morning, my inbox was full of people sending me the video of Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell presenting an award at the 2023 Oscars and it had me in stitches!
For those who haven’t seen it, the pair were reunited almost 30 years after they starred in the classic film ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’. Hugh announced that they were there to do two things... The first was to present an Oscar, and the second, ‘to raise awareness about the vital importance of using a good moisturiser’.
He went on to say that Andie had applied one every day for the past 29 years and still looked stunning and that he had never used one in his life and in his own words (please excuse my language!), looked like a scrotum 😂
Whilst Hugh is being exceptionally harsh on himself here, what was clear to see is how much stronger, healthier and youthful Andie’s skin was in comparison. And the reason I’m so fascinated by this is because Andie only uses her skincare routine to treat her complexion.
In a 2021 interview she said she’d tried Botox once but didn’t like the results so leaned into ageing naturally instead. When asked her skincare secrets she said that she applies her face cream liberally both morning and night and keeps a jar by her coffee machine, so she never forgets to apply it. She also shared how her mother was way ahead of her time and encouraged her to use SPF every day from her early 20s.
I honestly find this so refreshing as it proves the power in the tiny pots that sit on our dressing tables. Hollywood can often skew our perception of the ageing process with all its nips and tucks and this was a great, visual reminder never to underestimate the power and payoff of daily skincare habits.
Applying moisturiser twice a day for example keeps your complexion plump, juicy and youthful by locking hydration into your skin. And if you’re using the One Cream Wonder, it will also lift, tone and firm too as it’s infused with retinol to give your collagen levels a boost…Imagine what Andie’s skin would look like with that dreamy cocktail!
The other habit that Andie, her mum and I all agree on is of course, SPF. It prevents up to 90% of skin ageing, so I apply a layer of Sunbeam Cream - SPF 50 as the last step in my 5 Minute Kit morning routine, religiously.
Not only does it shield my skin, but gives me the perfect, glowing canvas for makeup and Andie also served as a great reminder to apply it to your neck and chest too. She was wearing a beautiful, v-neck dress and because of her sunscreen dedication, her skin was youthful from her forehead to her bust.
One thing I do want to note however, is that you don’t have to be an Andie to see results. If you’re a Hugh and have never touched a face cream or thought about sunscreen in your life, but would like to make a change…It’s never too late to start.
Just as upgrading your diet or starting an exercise regime would improve your wellbeing at 34 or 84, great skincare will always make an impact too. So perhaps I should forward this blog to Hugh and restore his faith that he can be more starlet than scrotum in a few simple steps!
Thank you to everyone who sent me the post and for starting my week on such a positive note. My inbox is always open for your questions, conversations and of course, hilarious videos too 🥰
